EVENT INFORMATION

Date : Saturday October 15, 2022
Time : Both 5K and 8K Start at 9:00am CT

Location : Fabyan Forest Preserve
1925 S Batavia Ave, Geneva, IL 60134

The motto for this race is #BeatYesterday.  Our goal is to provide a race that will allow you to challenge yourself to improve on where you are today.  We offer a fast, flat course where you will find support and encouragement in order to help you achieve your desired outcome.  Whether it is a new PR or your first 5K/8K, or you are coming off injury and want to get better, no matter what your situation is, if your desire is to #BeatYesterday, this is the race for you.

Challenge Option

One of the unique aspects of this race is not just the idea of self improvement with the Beat Yesterday slogan but that we provide you with an additional tool in the quest for improvement.  The Challenge Option is made to promote runner comradery and competition.  By selecting the Challenge Option, you will be asked for your goal time for the race.  After providing this information, you will be matched with another participant that has a similar goal for the same race.  Prior to race day, you will be emailed with the name and bib number of the runner you have been matched with.  On race day, there will be a Challenge Tent where you can meet your challenge partner.  The best part of this matchup is that you can decide to "race" each other and push each other to accomplishing your goal or you can pace each other and support each other on the way to your efforts to Beat Yesterday.  Regardless of how you choose to approach the race with your partner, the Challenge Option is one of the most fun aspects of our event.

Additionally, your challenge partner does not have to be a random stranger, although that can be an awesome way to make a new friend who runs your pace.  Complete the form below and send a Challenge email to a friend.  Once they sign up, you will both be assigned to challenge each other.

Thanks for submitting!

COURSE

Course Description

5K: The race will start at Fabyan Forest Preserve on the west side of the river near the Pavilion.  The course will head south towards downtown Batavia.  You will make a left turn on the sidewalk just before you reach Wilson St.  The path will take you across the river on a wooden bridge at which point you will turn left and head north on the east side of the river.  Running on the sidewalk for a short while, you will jump back on the trail and run under Fabyan Parkway.  You will come to where the Windmill is located and turn left again to cross the river on two bridges.  Once across, you will make one final left turn to complete the circuit and finish the 5K a few feet after where you started.

8K:  The 8K follows the same path as the 5K except when the course reaches the park where the windmill is located, it will continue to head north on the path for another 0.92 miles.  You will reach a turn around point where you will return south on the same path until you reach the bridge by the windmill where you will turn right to cross the river and finish the course the 5K takes.

Directions

Fabyan Forest Preserve is located on Route 31 just north of Fabyan Parkway in Batavia.

You can get on Rte 31 from the south in Batavia off Wilson St or from Butterfield and I-88 in North Aurora.

From the North you can head south on Rte 31 from Rte 38 in Geneva or Rte 64 in St. Charles

Parking

There is ample parking in Fabyan Forest Preserve but it is a park that is open to the public so I recommend arriving early in case the lot is full.  There is overflow parking on the East side of the river by Fabyan Windmill.  The entrance to that parking lot can be found on Crissy Avenue just north of Fabyan Parkway.  You will need to walk across the bridge to the start finish if you need to park there.

What if I can't come to the race?

Worth Your Mile Running is committed to providing an excellent running experience and although we do not provide refunds for races under any circumstances, we understand life does have a way of changing your plans and do allow participants to transfer their registration to another runner.  Instructions on how to complete this process can be found in the registration pages.

Transfers will be allowed for races of the same distance or a shorter distance.  Transfers to longer distances can be done with the new participant paying the difference between the races costs based on the cost at the time of the transfer and not at the time of the original purchase.  There will be a $2.00 transfer fee for all transfers.

What if the weather is bad?
This is October in the Midwest.  There is a possibility it will be warm and sunny or it could snow.  The race will be held regardless of weather with the exception of lightning, which will delay the start and will be a race day decision.
Can someone pickup my packet for me?
Yes.  Please make sure that you provide your friend with the registration confirmation for them to pick up your packet for you.
Is the race chip timed?
Yes.  Timing will be provided by Race Time and a link to results will be provided after the race.
Is there race day packet pickup?
Yes.  You can pick up your packet and bib the morning of the race starting at 7:30am
Are Headphones, Strollers or Pets allowed?
As it is a public course, we do not encourage or suggest headphone be worn.  Strollers are welcome and we highly suggest that walkers and strollers line up at the back.  Pets must follow the rules set forth by the Kane County Park District and are welcome as long as they are leashed.
